Embracing the Power of Strategic Patience

By Lucas Hine · RealCoach Academy

Why Patience Matters

We’ve all heard it countless times—patience is a virtue. Usually, it’s something your grandmother gently reminds you of when you’re impatiently checking your phone every five seconds, anxiously refreshing your inbox for good news, or holding your breath for an offer to finally come through on a listing. Yet patience, particularly strategic patience, isn’t merely about waiting. It’s about consciously choosing how and when to engage, recognizing that the tempo of our actions significantly shapes the quality of outcomes.

The Strength

Strategic patience isn’t glamorous. It doesn’t provide the instant dopamine rush of a quick sale or the thrill of immediate recognition. It’s steady, deliberate, and often goes unnoticed. It doesn’t make for viral Instagram content—no one hits the like button for thoughtful delays. The allure of immediate gratification is undeniably powerful; we crave instant wins and quick validations. However, strategic patience remains one of the most formidable tools in our emotional and professional arsenals. It’s the intentional choice to pause, reflect, and resist impulsive reactions—even under pressure. Strategic patience creates room for decisions to develop, relationships to deepen, and insights to emerge.

The Value of Waiting Wisely

Consider this scenario: you spot the ideal investment property. Adrenaline surges; urgency feels like your closest ally. Yet strategic patience suggests a different approach. It recommends pausing to breathe, reevaluate your assumptions, and potentially uncover hidden opportunities—or unseen pitfalls—that hasty decisions might overlook.

Recently, someone I deeply admire recounted writing five contracts in a single day after weeks of meticulous groundwork. The surge of accomplishment was thrilling, but the real success wasn’t the sudden burst of activity—it was the careful patience preceding it. It involved nurturing relationships, maintaining discipline aligned with long-term objectives, and patiently waiting for the right moment, rather than rushing toward the quickest one.

Trusting the Process

Let’s be candid: strategic patience can feel incredibly frustrating. It tests our resolve, breeds doubt, and sometimes has us doom-scrolling at 3 AM, questioning if we’re truly doing enough. However, when we genuinely embrace strategic patience and opt for thoughtful pacing over reactive immediacy, something remarkable happens. We start seeing a broader picture—a landscape abundant with potential, clearer in detail, and more aligned with our values.

Strategic patience asks us to trust—not blindly, but intentionally. It calls for trust in ourselves, our experiences, our intuition, and our capacity to remain steady amidst uncertainty. Most importantly, it invites us to trust the process, understanding that true growth often occurs beneath the surface—unseen yet profoundly impactful.

A Path Forward

As we navigate our journeys, let’s remember this: immediate action might feel good, but strategic patience often feels better. It provides deeper satisfaction, enduring clarity, and greater success. It’s less about simply waiting and more about how thoughtfully we choose to wait.
